What happens to what you type

In short: it stays in your browser. There are no accounts, no cookies, no ads and no trackers. Here is the full list of what is stored and what is sent.

Nothing you type is uploaded

The email writer, tone checker, signature generator, recommendation planner, research email and follow-up tools all run as JavaScript in your browser. Names, course details, drafts and dates are processed on your device and are not sent to this site or anyone else.

What is stored on your device

The site uses your browser's local storage for two things only, and sets no cookies:

  • eduemail-theme: your light or dark theme choice, if you pick one with the theme button.
  • eduemail-signature: your signature details, only if you tick “Remember on this device” on the signature page. Your student ID is never stored. Unticking the box deletes the saved details.

Nothing else is saved: the email writer, tone checker, planner and follow-up forms are cleared when you close or reload the page. You can also remove everything with your browser's “clear site data” option.

What is looked up, and when

  • Pages and data from this site. Pages, scripts, fonts and the university domain list used by the academic email checker are all loaded from eduemail.me. Looking up an address in the checker happens in your browser; the address is not sent anywhere.
  • The optional mail-server (MX) check. Only if you click “Check whether this domain receives email” in the academic email checker, the domain (the part after the @, never the full address) is sent to Cloudflare's public DNS-over-HTTPS service at cloudflare-dns.com, which returns the domain's MX records. Cloudflare's privacy policy for its public resolver applies to that request.
  • Open in mail app. This uses a standard mailto: link to pass the subject and body to your own mail app. Nothing goes through this site, and nothing is sent until you send it yourself.
  • Downloads. The .txt, .html and .ics (calendar) files are generated in your browser.

Analytics and hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare and uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies or cross-site tracking. It never receives what you type, paste or drop into the tools. As with any website, the hosting provider processes standard request information, such as your IP address, to deliver the pages.

Links to other sites

Pages link to other sites, including CleanTempMail, WebTraceCheck and the sister sites in the footer. When you follow a link you leave EduEmail, and that site's own privacy policy applies.
